Am I legal…

Monday, March 5th, 2007

It is March and already I have brewed 24 gallons of beer this year.  I did a quick Google search and found that the Texas limit for hombrewed beer is 200 gallons.

So, for the sake of fun, I am going to keep a running tab on my gallons this year and see if I can remain within the legal limit!

Hope nobody from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is reading this blog… or I may have to stop my updates in July…

Thirsty Mallard Iventory - Feb. 07

I will make this a monthly update…

Bottled Beer

Amarillo By Morning Pale Ale (6 bottles) - A pale ale made with all Amarillo hops. It was intended to be an American Pale but the flavor is a little on the sweeter side, making me think of it as more of an English Pale Ale.

Unnamed American Amber Ale (37 bottles) - An American amber ale made from a NorthernBrewer.com kit. It’s still conditioning in the bottle so I can’t give a profile on flavor.

On Tap

Quacktastic IPA (1/8th of a keg) - An American IPA made with all Amarillo hops. Really a great beer with a smooth yet prevalent hop character. Also has 8% alcohol.

BJ’s Pirhana Pale Ale Clone (half a keg) - A clone of the American pale ale served at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewery. Great beer that has a crisp hop flavor and aroma from Cascade and Chinook hops.

In The Fermenter

Schwarzduck Quack Lager (5 gallons) - A schwarzbier (black lager). This beer is currently lagering (aging) and should be ready to drink in March. At the taste test, a great roasty character was prevalent with the smooth taste of a lager. Should be great!

Experimental Cider (2 gallons) - This small batch is a test into the world of cider. 2 gallons of storebought organic apple juice is being fermented with champagne yeast. After fermentation the 2 gallons will be blended with fresh juice to add a sweet character. Should be ready in March.
